Safari Blue in Menai Bay
Experiences
A day by dhow: sandbanks, a reef, a lagoon and lunch under a baobab. From Fumba village, mahogany dhows cross the Menai Bay Conservation Area to sandbanks, a reef snorkel stop and Kwale Island, with its tidal lagoon, its giant baobab and a seafood lunch. Bottlenose and humpback dolphins are often seen on the crossing. The Original Safari Blue has run the trip since 1995 and says it uses no single-use plastic. Many cheaper trips copy the name — check the company on your booking. How to book: Book The Original Safari Blue (safariblue.net) a day or two ahead; it's a full day with food and drinks included. Fumba is about 30 minutes from Stone Town.
