Kitesurfing in Paje
Experiences
East Africa's kitesurfing capital: a huge, warm, waist-deep lagoon. Behind a reef a kilometre and a half offshore, Paje's lagoon is huge, sandy and waist- to knee-deep, with the wind blowing side-onshore — one of the best places in the world to learn. A dozen schools line the beach; most beginners are riding short distances after a three-day, nine- or ten-hour course. Experienced riders head out to the reef for waves, in groups or with a guide. Kite Centre Zanzibar (since 2006), B4 Kitesurf, Aquaholics and Zanzibar Kite Paradise are among the best-rated schools. How to book: Book a course a few days ahead in peak months. Kite Centre Zanzibar (kitecentrezanzibar.com), B4 Kitesurf (b4kite.surf), Aquaholics and Zanzibar Kite Paradise all teach here, and rent gear to certified riders.
